chapter 5

CHAPTER V
Summary, Conclusion and Recommendation
Summary
The Agricultural goods exported at the port of Dadiangas vary from season to season. Most of the Products start from a low performance level however only Canned Tuna and Pineapple products are the most consistent products in the high performance level. In the two years of export activity, processed goods are dominating over the raw goods due to its market value.
The presence of the multinational canning factories in General Santos City contributes volumes of production of different canned goods which creates continuous increment in export revenue. From 2010-2011, Tuna products grew parallel to the volume of production. The increase of their export revenue are attributed to the demand locally and internationally except for Pineapple products such as Canned Pineapple and Fresh Pineapple experienced fluctuations from time to time because this products are based in its seasonal output.
Conclusion
With the data gathered from PhilExport (General Santos City) about top exported commodities from 2010-2011. It was identified that there are top ten (10) leading exported commodities namely, canned tuna, canned pineapple, fresh pineapple, frozen whole tuna, pouched tuna, fresh tuna, frozen tuna, frozen milkfish, dried fruits and smoke fish. The mentioned products were classified into raw and processed goods wherein each goods were classified into three categories of level of performance – low, average and high performing commodities. Based on this observed data from the previous chapters, it si known that commodities belonging to low performing are seasonal goods which are only considered as highly demanded goods when it is on its right/peak season.
Goods that fall on average category are those goods which are consumable and are always available no matter what season may occur. High category level consist of processed goods like canned tuna and canned pineapple which are preferable outside the country because of its non-perishable characteristics.
Therefore, this study clearly states that processed commodities are highly competitive in terms of exporting compared to the raw ones.

Recommendation
Based on the observed data, the group came up with thefollowing recommendations:
1.    Government should establish a project educating exporters, local producers and suppliers about this top ten agricultural products for them to boost their investment.

2.    Integration of the role of the government to support the local producers and smale scale businessmen to expand/increase their production as well as the revenue.

3.    Diversification of products, to encourage the local exporters, local producers, investors and other businesmen to engage in expoting agricultural goods.

4.    Establishing more FTAs (free trade areas), to create more opportunities for the exporters.
